Why did Pontiac name their muscle car "Firebird"?

Why did Pontiac name their muscle car "Firebird"?

Postby Dr Matt » Thu May 02, 2013 8:14 am

Because they are so easy to smoke! :D

Hint, if your in a stock F-body dont pick a race with a Sonic Blue Lightning in Anchorage.

Maybe the giant wing on the trunk holds them back, LOL.

He kind of asked for it by romping on the gas as he got by me in traffic between Northern Lights & Benson. Too bad for him traffic opened up as we rolled through the construction on Seward highway. At the end of the 45 zone we were side by side with no one ahead of us and you have to speed up so I goosed it a little and he bit. Gave him the jump but still put a few lengths on him easy. I have no idea if he has any mods but it sounded stock.

But......He was on his street tune......LOL

Always fun to play with people when you can though, even when you know they don't have a chance.

Not usually, but it's been a long winter and it is nice to open it up at least a couple times before travelling out to the track so.....

I swapped on my Drag Radials and pullied up from 15 to 20#'s of boost last weekend and hadn't actually gone WOT yet. The roads were clear, no traffic, the guy in the Firebird had already let me know he wanted to play and it was just one of those times.

I thought it was going to be an easy kill, but you never know. Those F-body cars can be crazy fast. Hard to say if it is a 15 second slug or 9 second rocket with those things without opening the hood.

No, the 10th is my son's last day of High school, the 11th is his 18th Birthday and my 22nd anniversary. With the 12th being Mothers Day there is no chance I'm doing what I want that weekend.

I will be at the track and Kool Kruize on the 18th and at the track all weekend for Memorial races the following weekend. I still haven't decided if I'm running in full street mode like usual on the 18th or setting it on Kill and burning up my left over C-16. Track is usually slick with very little prep for the Kool Kruize so no chance for a personnal best that day, but for the last 2 years I have set the 2nd fastest ET at the Kool Kruize. I do have a bottle of VHT and 16 gallons of c-16 and since I can run 11.2 on 90 octane I don't have much use for the C-16 on a normal track day where they do a tech inspection. I doubt I could make another 10 second pass on the 18th due to poor traction, but I may try anyway. :D
